In 2010, Goodwill of Central & Southern Indiana recognized that over half-a-million adults in Indiana lacked a high school diploma. Having already opened Indianapolis Metropolitan High School in 2004, a public charter school for traditional-aged students that focuses on college and career pathways, Goodwill was well positioned to meet this challenge.

Goodwill of Central & Southern Indiana developed work-based learning opportunities for employers that are seeking new talent pools for their company, and to serve Hoosier workers in need of critical, hands-on training opportunities. For minimal cost, employer partners receive the benefit of added labor, and the ability to preview before hiring as they work toward building a talented pool of skilled employees.

Alas, your crafting and decorating skills—on a scale of one to ten—would be in the below zero range. Fear not, we've got the perfect craft for you! For around $8 and 10-15 minutes of your time, you can create a simple, elegant, fall-friendly decoration, make several for a centerpiece or scatter them around the house for a continuous touch.

In July 2017, Goodwill of Central & Southern Indiana awarded nearly $60,000 in scholarships to 22 employees, graduates and program participants to help them overcome barriers to pursuing higher education. One recipient, Nina Sharp, had enrolled at The Excel Center®, Goodwill’s high school for adults, after dropping out 17 years earlier.

When James Wilson was incarcerated in 1996, he was facing 42 years for conspiracy to deal drugs. He knew when he walked into the penitentiary at 37 years old that he needed to make changes in his life if he was going to turn things around. After 17 years, with a squeaky clean record as an inmate, Wilson appealed to the courts for an early release. His request was granted, and he was released – on house arrest.

If you didn’t know her story, Clarissa Dunn would look like an average, 21-year old college student, but the truth is, she has worked extremely hard to get on the path to higher education. She dropped out of high school her freshman year after becoming pregnant. When she enrolled at The Excel Center®, Goodwill’s high school for adults, she had few transferable credits and was completely starting over.

Goodwill of Central & Southern Indiana believes in growth and self-sufficiency through employment. This mission does not change when it comes to internships. Goodwill hires two interns annually and often has other internships available depending on the needs of the organization.
