The month of January is Get Organized Month, designated by the National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals (NAPO). It’s the start of the new year and fresh beginnings, so this is the perfect time to clean and organize your spaces that are overflowing with items that are no longer needed.

While the idea of cleaning and organizing can be an intimidating task for many, it can provide great benefits as well. A well-organized home can reduce stress, free up space and provide a great sense of accomplishment.

Closets are a great place to start. The hard part is determining what clothing to keep and what to donate. We all have clothes that we haven’t worn in forever, but we just can’t seem to part with them. A general rule is, if you haven’t worn something in six months to a year it’s time to let it go.

Donating your gently used items to Goodwill is convenient, easy and makes a positive impact in Central and Southern Indiana, Central Illinois and Puerto Rico. Consumers rely on Goodwill stores for affordability, value, and stretching budgets. Thrifting also fulfills creativity and self expression. Shoppers find unique items that align with individual style. In addition to clothing, Goodwill also accepts home decor, toys, books, furniture and more.

Donating can also make you feel good about making a positive impact on the environment. Donating to Goodwill is a form of recycling and directly supports environmental sustainability. “Goodwill helps keep millions of items out of landfills every single day,” said Brodie Sears, Vice President of Retail, Facilities, Risk & Real Estate.

In addition to protecting the environment, the revenue generated from the sale of donated goods helps fund our mission of changing lives every day through education, employment and health and housing. Goodwill not only provides thousands of job opportunities in the communities we serve, but also supports first-time parents, veterans and adults seeking their high school diploma.

Start boxing up those unwanted items, drop them off at Goodwill and feel good about supporting your community and promoting recycling.
