Cha’Mar is a senior at Indianapolis Metropolitan High School, and his high school journey is a story of growth, goal-setting, and hard work. When he first walked through the doors as a 10th grader, his main focus was playing basketball. He joined the team right away and has been a key player ever since. Over the years, however, his impact on the school has grown far beyond the basketball court.

Walking into the Indy Fresh Market on 38th Street and Sheridan, you can instantly smell the delicious home-cooked meals coming from the back of the store. That wonderful aroma comes from the Indy Fresh Deli, where Ty’Kimi has been bringing life, joy, and incredible flavor to the East Side of Indianapolis since November 2024.

Building things has been in David's blood for as long as he can remember. Recognizing his natural spark for creation early on, David's father bought him Lego sets to nurture his hands-on creativity. As David grew older, that childhood curiosity turned into real experience as he worked right alongside his dad on construction sites. He also loved spending peaceful days fishing outdoors with his father. However, school was not always easy. Diagnosed with a learning disability at age 10, David struggled with bullying and low self-confidence in his early school years.

Before connecting with her Goodwill de Puerto Rico Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) nurse home visitor, Jeylines Santiago Vargas felt overwhelmed by uncertainty. Facing pregnancy, childbirth, and the prospect of breastfeeding , her head was full of questions and fear, feeling as though she had to navigate the journey entirely on her own.

While searching for employment opportunities at one of Goodwill of Central Illinois’ monthly hiring events, Hunter Raissner was referred to Goodwill’s Beyond Barriers program. Beyond Barriers is a program for neurodiverse individuals to receive assistance with building job skills and support with securing and maintaining employment.

Through a formal nomination and selection process, candidates are narrowed down to the top three finalists in each category.Once the award winners are selected, a video production process begins to bring these remarkable stories of resilience to life.

In the heart of rural Indiana, where the roads stretch long and the opportunities can sometimes feel sparse, you would find David. When Susan Sheets, Goodwill TalentSource™ Rural Career Pathways Grant Coordinator, first met David in January 2025, he had just graduated from The Excel Center® in Richmond. He was a young man with a sharp mind for logic and math but faced barriers that would have caused many to stay exactly where they were.
