At Goodwill of Central & Southern Indiana, sustainability is built into everything we do. From our retail stores to schools to manufacturing facilities, sustainability remains a top priority for Goodwill.

In 2024, community members donated more than 3 million times. Each time a donation is brought in, it creates a powerful environmental impact that reaches far beyond our stores. In 2024, we sorted more than 75 million pounds of household goods for secondary market sales. These items that might have otherwise gone to waste are instead given a second life, creating meaningful employment opportunities while funding mission-driven programs, like The Excel Center® and Goodwill Nurse-Family Partnership®.

Thanks to store donors and our dedicated staff at our retail stores and outlets, over 44 million pounds of unused goods were kept out of landfills last year. That’s millions of pounds of clothing, furniture, books, household items and more that avoided contributing to overflowing landfills or unnecessary waste streams.

Outside of our retail and outlet sites, Goodwill Commercial Services, a division of Goodwill of Central & Southern Indiana that provides contract manufacturing, warehousing, and third-party logistics solutions, is also committed to sustainability. We are committed to reducing our environmental footprint through energy efficient processes, waste reduction, and using sustainable materials wherever possible. Our manufacturing facilities are designed with sustainability in mind.

Sustainability at Goodwill isn’t limited to one department or project, but rather it is embedded across our organization. From retail reuse to sustainable manufacturing, every step is guided by a commitment to environmental responsibility, continuous improvement and reducing our overall ecological footprint.

By focusing on waste diversion, efficient operations, and sustainable design, we continue to reduce our environmental impact while providing critical support services for Hoosiers in our community.
