Walking into the Indy Fresh Market on 38th Street and Sheridan, you can instantly smell the delicious home-cooked meals coming from the back of the store. That wonderful aroma comes from the Indy Fresh Deli, where Ty’Kimi has been bringing life, joy, and incredible flavor to the East Side of Indianapolis since November 2024.
For a long time, this neighborhood lacked access to healthy and affordable groceries. To solve this problem, Cook Medical and Goodwill of Central & Southern Indiana teamed up to operate Indy Fresh Market. Around that same time, Ty’Kimi was looking for a change. She had already graduated high school, started a family, and worked as a stockroom leader at a large department store. She applied to Indy Fresh Market right when it opened. Today, she cannot imagine being anywhere else because the incredible staff feels like one big family.
Ty'Kimi works in the Indy Fresh Deli, a hot food, take-out style section of the store. She and her team work together to prepare fresh, delicious food for their customers daily. Ty'Kimi helps cook everything from comforting side dishes like baked macaroni and cheese to hearty main dishes like juicy pork chops. She takes massive pride in the cleanliness of the entire store and believes that a spotless store and great customer engagement are the two things that keep people coming back.
Even though she spends her time working hard with her team in the deli area, Ty’Kimi still makes a huge effort to connect with her regular customers and put together their favorite orders. She greets everyone she encounters with a warm smile and loves to take a moment to truly get to know the people she serves. She also loves connecting with the neighborhood through community events. Whether it is a holiday giveaway, a June celebration, or the annual October Trunk or Treat, she is always proud to support her neighbors.
If you follow Indy Fresh Market on social media, you have probably seen Ty’Kimi before. She has become the store’s unofficial spokesperson. She regularly stars in videos that showcase daily food specials and upcoming neighborhood events. Her bright personality on camera is working wonders. Since she started making the videos, sales at the grocery store have shot up significantly. "While I can’t take all the credit, I kind of like to think that I had a part of that," Ty’Kimi says with a laugh.
Through her experience with Goodwill, Ty’Kimi learned that a job can be much more than just a paycheck. She believes that Goodwill offers people a real opportunity to reinvent themselves and choose a fresh start.
Her hard work has not gone unnoticed. Ty’Kimi was recently named the May 2026 Employee of the Month. Looking ahead, she plans to stay with Indy Fresh Market , working toward a management position while building the skills and experience to one day fulfill her dream of opening her own restaurant.
