At Goodwill of Central & Southern Indiana, our mission is to empower people to increase their independence and reach their potential through education, health, and employment. We not only strive to do this with Goodwill Nurse-Family Partnership® (NFP) parents or students of The Excel Center® – but also much of our mission supports employees within our organization.
For example, Goodwill employees have access to wellness grants, which are offered to fund programs and activities that help improve and support overall well-being. When employees apply, they are encouraged to think creatively in all areas of wellness, which includes physical and emotional health, financial stability, and educational attainment.
Abby O’Connor, a nurse supervisor for Goodwill NFP, wanted to use a Goodwill wellness grant to move more at work. She built a routine of working out in the gym but felt that she wasn’t moving enough during the workday. Feeling restless and unable to concentrate at work, she wanted to invest in a walking pad, a small treadmill that could fit under her desk.
She applied for and received a wellness grant that covered a portion of the cost of the walking pad. With the new addition to her work environment, Abby has been able to double the number of steps she achieved throughout the day, feel more focused, and improve her overall physical and mental wellness.
For Abby, it was motivating to have her workplace take part in her wellness journey and help her reach her goals.
“Achieving my wellness goals makes me feel encouraged to continue,” said Abby. “It gets me excited to see the progress that I'm making.”
In 2024 alone, over 100 wellness grants were approved, helping employees across the organization reach their goals. However, wellness grants are just one of the benefits offered to Goodwill employees. Often, people are connected to wellness grants through their Nurse Health Coach, a free resource available to employees over the age of 18. Nurse Health Coaches serve as facilitators to help employees identify opportunities to improve their health and wellness, such as connecting them to primary care providers.
Additionally, Goodwill employees are encouraged to prioritize their mental health with access to resources like Tava Health. This online therapy platform allows employees to establish long-term relationships with their choice of over 100 Indiana mental health providers.
All Goodwill employees, their spouses, and dependents are each eligible for 15 free, confidential sessions per year with Tava Health professionals to help with depression, anxiety, and more.
These are only a few of the ways Goodwill empowers employees to reach their full potential. Are you ready to reach yours? Our careers page has a complete list of employment opportunities: goodwillindy.org/careers.
