Walking into the Indy Fresh Market on 38th Street and Sheridan, you can instantly smell the delicious home-cooked meals coming from the back of the store. That wonderful aroma comes from the Indy Fresh Deli, where Ty’Kimi has been bringing life, joy, and incredible flavor to the East Side of Indianapolis since November 2024.

Each year, Goodwill employees are encouraged to share stories of individuals who have overcome significant barriers to achieve success. Through a formal nomination and selection process, candidates are narrowed down to the top three finalists in each category.Once the award winners are selected, a video production process begins to bring these remarkable stories of resilience to life.

In the heart of rural Indiana, where the roads stretch long and the opportunities can sometimes feel sparse, you would find David. When Susan Sheets, Goodwill TalentSource™ Rural Career Pathways Grant Coordinator, first met David in January 2025, he had just graduated from The Excel Center® in Richmond. He was a young man with a sharp mind for logic and math but faced barriers that would have caused many to stay exactly where they were.

Every year, during the last week of January, communities are federally mandated to conduct a single-night census that identifies residents experiencing homelessness, including those in emergency shelters, transitional housing, and unsheltered locations. This census is called “Point-in-Time Count.” In Marion County, this census was led by the [Coalition of Homelessness Intervention & Prevention (CHIP)](https://www.chipindy.org/)and conducted by outreach professionals countywide.

For over a year, Goodwill of Central & Southern Indiana’s career coaching and workforce intermediary, Goodwill TalentSource, has partnered with BMO Bank to bring opportunities in banking and financial services to untapped talent in Indianapolis through BMORE. This program strives to remove barriers that may prevent people from moving into a career in banking. One example of a barrier is limited education.
