[The Excel Center](http://excelcenter.org)®, Goodwill's tuition-free high school for adults, recently honored hundreds of students during its 2025 winter graduating class. Designed to empower individuals to overcome adversity and reach their potential, The Excel Center provides a unique opportunity for adult learners, like Michael Barlow, to earn an Indiana Core 40 high school diploma.

**“When I first walked through the doors of The Excel Center, I was completely lost,” Barlow admitted. “I didn’t know where I was headed, but now, I can say I am forever changed because I found a place where people truly care.” **

Nearly half-a-million Hoosier adults lack a high school diploma, but The Excel Center offers flexibility, individualized support and a path to success for those who are ready to return and complete their education. In addition to his diploma, Barlow earned an Automotive Service Excellence certification through The Excel Center. 

**“Today, I’m employed in a career I absolutely love, and I feel an immense sense of pride in the person I’ve become,” he said. “My family is incredibly proud of me, and honestly, I’m proud of myself, too.”**

 

 

The Excel Center has celebrated thousands of graduates, like Barlow, who have joined the workforce or are continuing their education at local universities.

“Many of the adults we serve have struggled previously to receive the individualized support they needed in school,” said Betsy K. Delgado, senior vice president and chief mission and education officer at Goodwill of Central & Southern Indiana. “From teachers and life coaches to college and career readiness specialists, The Excel Center has dedicated staff for students who may need a little extra support on their educational journey.”
