At Goodwill, our employees are beneficiaries of our mission of changing lives everyday; we want to ensure that we’re providing the tools employees need to reach their full potential and increase their independence.

For Kat Núñez, that meant finding her passion in data and growing her career. That journey began almost a decade ago, when she joined Goodwill to earn an income while her partner was incapacitated from an accident.

“I was a team lead,” said Kat. “I liked the mission and that’s what drove me to accept the position.”

While working retail, she wanted to go back to school but was wary about financial assistance. Kat consulted with a mission coach for guidance. Goodwill Mission Coaches help employees break through barriers and set goals educationally, financially or professionally. After meeting with her coach and gaining insight on financial assistance, Kat quickly enrolled in classes and started her journey toward an associates degree.

She was initially unsure of what she wanted to pursue. However, as Kat was starting school, a position opened up for data analytics in the organization.

“I read the job description and I felt like I could do it if I put my mind to it,” said Kat. “I had some experience from working at my dad’s company as well. I realized that I enjoyed dealing with data and I ultimately wanted to expand that skillset.”

She applied for and received the role, working and studying simultaneously. Kat had the unique opportunity to learn and apply that knowledge to her everyday work. While employed at Goodwill, Kat earned her associates, bachelors and is now working toward her masters degree.

“I really enjoy working for mission-driven companies,” said Kat. “Even though I’m behind a desk, I still feel like I’m giving back to the community.”

Working for Goodwill is not only personally fulfilling; it has also allowed Kat to become financially independent and make lifelong connections. Currently, Kat oversees the Human Resources Information System (HRIS) team, supporting the implementation and advancement of Goodwill’s strategic plan and translating workforce data into actionable insights that inform organizational decision-making. Outside of pursuing her masters, Kat wants to continue to see herself grow in the organization and impact the people that Goodwill serves.

“I feel good and proud of myself,” said Kat. “I think as someone who definitely experiences imposter syndrome, it's easy to forget the work I've put in and the skillset that I have. I'm excited for new challenges to come!”

Goodwill offers the stepping stones for our employees to get to where they want to be. Start your journey with Goodwill and apply today.
