Each year on July 15th, National Give Something Away Day encourages people to take a closer look at what they no longer need and consider who might benefit from it. It’s a reminder that giving doesn’t need to be complicated. Even small gestures, like household items, can have a direct impact.

The act of giving something away, whether it’s a single item or a carload, supports health, education, and employment services in your community. When donations are made to Goodwill, they fuel programs that help people gain skills, find jobs, and improve their lives.

National Give Something Away Day is also about reducing waste. Instead of discarding useful items, donating them allows for responsible reuse. Goodwill gives items a second life, making it easier for communities to keep goods in use and out of landfills.

Local influencer and Goodwill Shopper, Alton Parks (Instagram: @luv.deazy), recently stopped by for the Color Thrift Challenge in honor of National Give Something Away Day. After randomly selecting the color green he was tasked with putting together a full outfit inspired by that color — and he delivered.

National Give Something Away Day is not only a time to donate, but also a reminder that thrift shopping makes quality, secondhand clothing more accessible. It’s an opportunity for shoppers and stylists alike to find unique pieces, express creativity, and extend the life of donated items. Alton’s challenge shows how donated clothing can be transformed into a stunning, styled look. Hear why Alton loves shopping at Goodwill and check out his thrift challenge video below.

National Give Something Away Day doesn’t require a large commitment. It simply asks people to think differently about the things they no longer use and find meaningful ways to pass them on. To find your local Goodwill donation drop off location, visit: www.goodwillindy.org/shop/locations/.
